Important Information

This kit is intended to help individuals keep commonly used diabetes-management supplies readily available. It is not a substitute for prescribed diabetes medications, individualized medical advice, or emergency medical care.

Follow your healthcare provider's instructions for blood glucose monitoring and the management of low or high blood sugar. If you experience severe hypoglycemia, loss of consciousness, seizure, confusion that prevents self-treatment, or another medical emergency, seek emergency medical assistance.

Always check expiration dates and replace used or expired glucose products, test strips, lancets, and other supplies as needed.

Allergy & Sensitivity Notice: Please review all product labels and ingredients before use. Some items in this kit may contain ingredients or materials that can cause allergic reactions or sensitivities, including food ingredients, adhesives, alcohol, or other substances. If you have a known allergy or sensitivity, please confirm that each product is appropriate for you before using or consuming it.

**Optional Glucagon Add-On — Choose the Option That's Right for You**

For additional emergency preparedness, you may choose to add a glucagon rescue medication option to your Diabetes Kit before checkout.

Glucagon is a rescue medication used to treat severe hypoglycemia (very low blood sugar) when a person is unable to safely take glucose by mouth, such as when they are unconscious, having a seizure, or otherwise unable to swallow.

You do not need to purchase all three options. Each option provides glucagon for the treatment of severe hypoglycemia; the primary differences are how the medication is prepared, how it is administered, and how quickly and easily a caregiver can use it during an emergency.

Glucagon Nasal Spray — 3 mg/dose, 2-Pack

Needle-free and ready to use.

The nasal spray is a convenient glucagon option that does not require an injection or any mixing or preparation before use. The device contains a premeasured dose that is administered into one nostril.

To use, remove the device from its packaging, place the tip into one nostril, and press the plunger completely to administer the dose. The person does not need to inhale or breathe in for the medication to be administered.

Why choose the nasal spray?

  • Ready to use with no mixing or measuring
  • No needles or injections
  • Premeasured dose
  • May be easier for family members, coworkers, teachers, or other caregivers to administer during an emergency
  • Includes 2 devices, which can make it convenient to keep glucagon in more than one location

Best for: Individuals who prioritize simplicity and a needle-free option for emergency use.

Glucagon Auto-Injector — 0.5 mg/0.1 mL, 2-Pack

Premeasured, injectable, and ready to use.

The glucagon auto-injector provides a premeasured dose of glucagon in a device designed for rapid administration during a severe low blood sugar emergency. Unlike the traditional vial and syringe option, there is no medication to mix or manually draw into a syringe before administration.

The device is administered by injection according to the product-specific instructions. Because the medication is already prepared and measured, the caregiver can focus on administering the medication rather than preparing a dose during an emergency.

Why choose the auto-injector?

  • Ready to use
  • No mixing or measuring
  • Premeasured dose
  • Designed to simplify injectable glucagon administration
  • Includes 2 auto-injectors for convenient emergency preparedness

Best for: Individuals who are comfortable with an injectable option but want the convenience of a premeasured, ready-to-use device.

Glucagon Syringe/Vial Kit — 1 mg, 1 Kit

Traditional glucagon option requiring preparation before injection.

The syringe/vial kit is a more traditional form of emergency glucagon and may be a more economical option for individuals who are comfortable with the additional preparation required.

Unlike the nasal spray and auto-injector, this option is not simply opened and immediately administered. The medication must be prepared according to the manufacturer's instructions before it can be injected. Depending on the specific product supplied, this generally involves preparing/reconstituting the medication and then drawing the appropriate dose into a syringe before administering the injection.

Because there are additional preparation steps, we recommend that the patient and anyone who may need to administer the medication review the supplied instructions ahead of time rather than waiting until an emergency occurs.

Why choose the syringe/vial kit?

  • More traditional glucagon delivery method
  • Often a lower-cost option
  • Provides the same type of emergency rescue medication in a less convenience-oriented delivery system
  • Appropriate for individuals or caregivers who are comfortable preparing and administering an injection
  • Includes 1 glucagon kit

Best for: Individuals looking for a more economical glucagon option who are comfortable with—or have a caregiver comfortable with—preparing and administering the medication by syringe.

Which Glucagon Option Should I Choose?

You only need to select one option. Think of the three choices as different delivery methods for emergency glucagon rather than three different medications that all need to be purchased.

Choose the Nasal Spray if:
You want the simplest needle-free option with no mixing or measuring.

Choose the Auto-Injector if:
You are comfortable with an injection but want a premeasured, ready-to-use device with no medication preparation.

Choose the Syringe/Vial Kit if:
You want a more economical option and you or your caregiver are comfortable preparing the medication and administering it with a syringe.

The nasal spray and auto-injector generally cost more in part because they provide the convenience of ready-to-use delivery systems. The syringe/vial kit requires additional preparation before administration, which helps explain why it may be offered at a lower price.

Important Emergency Information

Glucagon is intended for severe hypoglycemia when a person cannot safely take glucose by mouth. Caregivers, family members, teachers, coworkers, or others who may need to help should know where the glucagon is stored and how to use the specific product selected before an emergency occurs.

Always follow the instructions supplied with your specific glucagon product and the emergency plan provided by your healthcare professional. After administering glucagon, follow the product instructions regarding emergency medical assistance, positioning, additional doses, and giving oral carbohydrates once the person is awake and able to safely swallow.

Glucagon is an optional add-on and is not included with the standard Basic Diabetes Kit. You do not need to purchase all three glucagon options. Select the delivery method that best fits your needs and your healthcare provider's recommendations.
